Youth Sail Racing Course Onboard Diva 399 Est! Est!! Est!!!

Full-Crew Youth Training
A special sail racing course for youth aged 18-28 years, wanting to step onboard bigger racing yachts.
Maximum 8 participants per session (first come, first served).
Three evenings, from 17:30 to 21:00. Meet-up at 17:30, we dock off at 18:00. Back at the dock, packed up and debriefed by 21:00.
- Session 1: Focus on sail selection, efficient sail changes, and rounding maneuvers
- Session 2: Focus on sail trim for upwind, downwind, broad reach, reaching, and open angles
- Session 3: Focus on start procedures
The course includes the boat with all equipment, PredictWind and Navionics access, course literature from RYA Yachtmaster Offshore, and access to a starting timer.
Bring your own life jacket, weather-appropriate clothing for the sailing sessions, and a personal water bottle. If you have your own starting watch or training watch with a timer, it’s good to bring it as we will be training on start sequences.
The course requires that you have basic sailing experience and understanding – perhaps (but not necessary) coming from a dinghy background, as well as basic navigation skills. Of course, you’re welcome to sign up for other sessions to get more practice and repetition of all the exercises.
This course will be held in English or Swedish depending on participants.
About your coach – Madeleine
I’ve been sailing my whole life and have raced actively for the past 15 years, in everything from dinghies to the world’s largest three-masted barque. I’ve worked as an instructor for both adults and youth on keelboats (Diva 399, Maxi 999, 909, 84), coached J/70, J/80, and J/92 teams, led corporate sailing events, worked in yacht deliveries and charter in the Mediterranean, crossed both the Atlantic and the Pacific, and have seven Gotland Runt races under my belt (best result: 2nd place in ORC A).
I’ve earned a bronze medal in the Baltic Sea Race (double-handed), a gold medal in the Tall Ship’s Races, podium finishes in both offshore and inshore regattas on X-41 and J/111, competed in match racing on the World Match Racing Tour and the Women’s WMRT, and I’m also a Magenta Project alum (Media & Management Pathway).
Licences: Class 8 Ship Officer, Yachtmaster Offshore, STCW Basic Safety, Norwegian D5L.
About the yacht
Diva 399 Est! Est!! Est!!! is a 40 ft performance cruiser from 1992, featuring slim Scandinavian lines and strong racing DNA. The yacht is equipped with wheel steering, backstays, a full sail wardrobe, and every control line you could possibly dream of. In our opinion – the perfect platform for developing keelboat racing skills.
