It’s performed at a windward mark when the sailor recognizes a strategic opportunity: the wind has shifted, the racecourse is skewed, and there’s a faster, freer path downwind. Instead of taking the default route, the crew executes a fast, coordinated gybe — turning the boat’s stern through the wind — and immediately sets the spinnaker on a new tack, aiming for clear air and better momentum.
For me, a Gybe Set is more than a technique. It’s a metaphor.
